Frequently Asked Questions (for students)
I am interested in applying for the internship opportunity. What determines eligibility for the program?
A: An intern candidate must:
- have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
- commit to consistent excellence for the duration of the internship
- be enrolled in at least 5 credits at a community college in good standing for the duration of the internship
- be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
How do I set up an account in Connect?
A: Go to accedp.usra.edu and set-up a student account. Students are encouraged to use personal emails in ACCEDP Connect in case NDC accounts are interrupted.
If I submit an application for one session, would my application automatically be in the system for consideration for future recruitment sessions?
A: No. Students are encouraged to return to the website periodically to learn about opportunities and to submit applications for multiple sessions. An updated academic transcript must accompany each new application.
Are there summer internships available through ACCEDP?
A: Yes. Summer internships are new opportunities ACCEDP would like to extend to community college students. The internship is 10weeks in duration.
What is the internship location?
A: All ACCEDP internships take place at NASA Ames Research Center.
If I am accepted as an ACCEDP student intern but would like to transfer to a four-year college/university, would I still be eligible for the ACCEDP internship?
A: The Ames Community College Education and Development Program is designed to strengthen ties between NASA Ames and SF Bay Area community colleges, while offering unique opportunities for community college students.
Are interns required to be enrolled in an internship course to earn credit for work experience?
A: No. Enrollment in a cooperative education/work experience course is not a requirement for participation in the internship program. However, student interns are encouraged to enroll in cooperative education/work experience courses if these courses are available at their respective academic institutions.
How many credits do I need to take to continue to qualify for the ACCEDP program?
A: Student interns must be enrolled at least part-time in a community college to continue to qualify for the ACCEDP program. Minimum part-time enrollment and completion of 5 credits per academic semester/quarter. Students are not required to take courses during the summer.
I understand these are paid internships. As a student, how much will I receive during the program?
A: The amount of student stipend depends on the level of effort of the internship and the student year in the program:
- year #1 program students: $1040/mo. throughout the year
- year #2 program students: $1120/mo. throughout the year
Full-time ACCEDP students will receive a stipend of:
- year #1 program students:
- $1040/mo. during academic year
- $2080/mo. during July and August
- year #2 program students:
- $1120/mo. during September through June
- $2240/mo. during July and August
Can I have my check issued through automatic deposit?
A: Yes, automatic deposit can be set up through Ashley Krotje.
Can USRA tell me how what my taxes should be and when and how I should pay them?
A: As USRA is not a professional tax facility, we cannot provide tax advice. We do encourage you to seek professional advice to guide you in this process.
